Dr. Zachary E. ShirleyAlpha Class HonoreeDr. Zachary E. Shirley, a proud 2005 graduate of Paul Quinn College, exemplifies outstanding leadership through his consistent commitment to service, advocacy, and creating sustainable change. Raised in Dallas, Texas, he earned his bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education/English from Paul Quinn College, a master’s degree in Higher Education/Counseling from East Texas A&M University, and a Doctor of Education in Higher Education from the University of North Texas. Dr. Shirley currently serves as Vice President of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) at Cambium Learning Group, where he is both an advocate and strategic advisor across the enterprise. In this role, he works to foster an inclusive, equitable workplace where teachers, students, families, and employees feel seen, valued, and supported. His leadership is grounded in empowerment, equity, and access. Whether organizing community-based programs, mentoring young professionals, advocating for educational justice, or building platforms for Black voices to be heard and celebrated, Dr. Shirley leads with integrity, empathy, and an unapologetic commitment to his people, especially the Paul Quinn College community. What distinguishes Dr. Shirley’s leadership is his belief that impact must outlive intention. Embodying the “WE over ME” ethos, he actively mentors emerging leaders, supports initiatives both locally and nationally, and shares knowledge freely, understanding that transformation is sustained when communities are equipped to lead long after the spotlight fades. He is also deeply engaged in service through fraternity and community work as a committed volunteer in the fraternity and sorority community, an active member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., and Prince Hall Affiliated Freemasonry. Dr. Shirley carries Paul Quinn’s legacy with pride, using his platform to challenge injustice, tell authentic stories, and create opportunities for the next generation to rise higher. His impact is measured not only by accolades but also by the hearts he has touched, the voices he has elevated, and the futures he has helped reimagine. |
