Charles McDowellAlpha Class HonoreeCharles McDowell was born in Waco, Texas, to A.J. and Opal McDowell. He attended J.H. Hines Elementary School, G.L. Wiley Junior High School, and A.J. Moore High School before graduating from Paul Quinn College in 1969 with a Bachelor of Science in Business. He later pursued graduate studies at East Texas State University and Prairie View A&M University. Charles’s professional journey reflects decades of dedication and service. He began his career at Paul Quinn College as Assistant Director of Financial Aid, where he worked to ensure students had access to educational opportunities. In February 1974, he joined the Texas State Comptroller’s Office, serving faithfully for 32 years before retiring as a Senior Tax Auditor. For more than 50 years, Charles has been a devoted member of McMillan United Methodist Church, where he has held numerous leadership positions that strengthened both the congregation and the surrounding community. His lifelong commitment to service extends into civic and alumni organizations, including his role as National Treasurer for the Paul Quinn College National Alumni Association, leadership positions at the local, state, and national levels with the Elks Lodge, and service on the Board of Directors for the A.J. Moore High School Alumni Association. He also contributed his expertise as Program Director and Accounting Manager for the UNCF Telethon in Fort Worth and continues his service to veterans as a member of American Legion Post 838. Charles is recognized for his integrity, selflessness, and ability to lead with vision and purpose. He inspires others by communicating goals clearly, fostering teamwork, and demonstrating the power of collective effort. His leadership has left a lasting impact on the community, especially through his efforts to expand student scholarships, mentor young people, and create pathways for educational and personal success. As a proud father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Charles McDowell values family deeply while continuing to dedicate his time and talents to uplifting others. His legacy is one of servant leadership, community advancement, and an unwavering commitment to building opportunities for generations to come. |
