Dr. Gregory ShirleyAlpha Class HonoreeDr. Gregory Shirley, II graduated from Paul Quinn College in 2005 with a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education. He went on to earn both a Master of Science in Higher Education Administration and a Doctor of Education in Educational Administration, with an emphasis in Curriculum, Supervision, and Instruction, from Texas A&M University–Commerce. Since October 2021, Dr. Shirley has served as Partner Operations Manager for Mainstay, where he collaborates with Historically Black Colleges and Universities across the country to recruit and retain undergraduate students, helping them achieve academic success. Prior to his transition into educational technology, he spent 15 years working in higher education throughout the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex, primarily in the areas of career and professional development. A proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated, Dr. Shirley was initiated in 2002 at Paul Quinn College. His commitment to mentorship and leadership has spanned more than two decades, during which he has guided countless young professionals. Many of his former students—now colleagues and friends—carry forward the leadership principles he instilled in them, modeling the same dedication and influence within their own spheres. Dr. Shirley’s guiding philosophy is captured in his favorite quote by Charles Swindoll: “We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% of how I react to it.” He embodies this perspective daily, approaching both challenges and opportunities with positivity, resilience, and integrity. He believes leadership is a 360-degree influence—possible from any position within an organization—and continues to inspire others to strive for the greater good. |
